Awesome Trackback Tips For Successful Blogging!
Trackback is a system used to associate posts on different blogs and, in a broader sense, allows blogs to "share" readers.
An example! Just as a simple example of how Trackback works: If you have just published an article about Admiral Byrd's Second Antarctic Expedition and then come across a similar or related post on another blog, you can use the trackback mechanism to notify the other poster of the existence of his post.
When your trackback notification (which is the permalink to your post and possibly some basic information about your blog) appears in the other blog's post, readers of that blog will also receive a notification that you have something to say. on the subject and it is possible to pay him a visit.
Everyone can have it, but not everyone does! Some blogs have this tracking capability built in and some don't.
but the good news is that Haloscan, a very popular comment tracking program, now offers a tracking feature for those who don't and the best news is FREE! If you are interested, you can go to haloscancom/members to sign up.
Note that signing up for Trackback (if you don't already have it) will give YOU a trackback capability, but you still won't be able to track a post on a blog that doesn't have Trackback.
Trackbacks vs comments! Typically, you'll see a post you have something to say about and comment on it.
Using a Trackback when you don't have an honestly related post, one that adds something relevant or clarifies the post in question, is not accepted practice.
If you become known as a "trackback spammer" by sending unrelated trackbacks, you may be banned from offending blogs.
How does it work! Trackback works by sending a "ping" (an electronic notification) from your blog to another blog to notify them of your post.
This ping also notifies your Trackback program to include your post Some bloggers moderate their trackbacks, that is, they manually review each trackback notification and verify that it is a related post;.
this prevents spammers from linking your spam posts to real blogs. If the blogger reviews your post and finds it relevant, they can allow trackback and your post will appear as a trackback on the other blog.
The first step in creating a trackback is to get the "Trackback URL" of the post you want to send your Trackback notification to. If the post doesn't have a Trackback URL, they don't have Trackback capability or have it turned off.
Then, copy that URL to the appropriate place in your blog post. This will usually be identified by some reference to "Track URLs" or "Track Pings".
Then republish your blog: Your trackback software will automatically ping the trackback to the target blog post.
That's it, your trackback, with a permalink to your post, will be sent to the destination post, and after approval (if the blogger is moderating trackbacks), your Trackback will be listed.
Other functions! In some systems it is possible to send simultaneous Trackbacks to more than one destination publication.
Another Trackback capability allows you to trackback ping yourself, linking to a post on another blog; this lets your readers know that the other post is available and can be considered a "recommended reading" type feature.
Just a four point review of Trackback!
Not all bloggers have the Trackback feature and some that do do not have it enabled.
Some bloggers moderate their trackbacks to prevent unrelated posts from being linked to.
However, some do not moderate or monitor their Trackbacks, so trackback spammers can sneak in. Don't be a trackback spammer and don't tolerate them.
Haloscan now offers Trackback capability bundled with its feedback program (both are free).
Installing Trackback on your blog will not allow you to send Trackbacks to blogs without that capability.
More information about Trackbacks! Wikipedia has a very comprehensive entry on Trackbacks which can be found at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trackback. Wikipedia articles are always complete and will provide you with information you can trust.
